United Methodist Women - Candlelight Circle
"Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished." --Luke 1:45
The United Methodist Women's Candlelight Circle was charted
in February of 1996 as an alternative for those who could not
meet in the daytime. The group meets the third Thursday of the
month. We gather together between 6:00 p.m and 6:30 p.m. The
meetings start at 6:30 p.m. whether it is a potluck, at a restaurant,
or a special planned outing. We light a candle
on the table to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world.
How we are Organized
- In January, we plan events and programs for
the New Year, and then have a pledge service from the UMW
program book. Each of us makes a private, individual pledge,
which together makes up our unit's Pledge to Missions. During
the year we also save our change to dedicate to our World
Thanks offering in November.
- Between January and June, we work
on Mission Project Kits for the Annual Conference. Some
of the "kits" we have made are Sewing, Teacher, First Aide,
Layette kits, and Flood Buckets.
- In May, we enjoy delivering flowering
plants to a very special group of our congregation. We enjoy
giving the flowers and visiting with them as much as they
do!
- In August, we enjoy a potluck picnic including swimming with our families.
- In the fall, our UMW circles work
together to plan the service for United Methodist
Women's Sunday.
- Each year we have our famous annual "Pie Bake" in our church kitchen.
Our members gather together in making and baking the pies of
the season: apple (all types), pumpkin, blueberry, cherry,
and cranberry walnut, to name just a few. The following
day we sell the pies in the lobby of a local bank. Proceeds
are used to support various missions of our church.
- In December, we all go out for
dinner and choose a mission project to support for the holiday.
- Other meetings are centered on
special speakers, Christian learning programs, touring institutions
and agencies in the area, and visiting local churches. We
also like to take side trips to other special church events,
church retreats, and Christian concerts whenever we can.
- Our church kitchen has a special
place in our hearts, and we have done a variety of fun projects
to equip its needs. These include hosting a kitchen shower,
purchasing three new stoves with funds from one of our pie
bakes, painting, and making new curtains for the kitchen
and fellowship hall.
- Our group continues to grow and
change with the needs of our members and our church.
Come join us and be part of our active ministry!
