Candlelight Circle

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” –I Peter 4:10 NIV

The United Methodist Women’s Candlelight Circle was chartered in February of 1996. The group meets the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. We typically begin with a small meal followed by our meeting or mission activity. We light a candle on the table to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world.

The emblem of the United Methodist Women symbolizes the organization. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of the church United Methodist Women Logoand appear on the UMW emblem. Both remind United Methodist Women of our purpose of growing in our understanding of and willingness to participate in the global ministries of the church. The shape is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility.

Our Mission

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

What We Do Throughout the Year

  • In January, we gather to plan events and missions for the new year. We announce our theme and motto, and get creative and energized as we plan our future meetings. Each member makes a private, individual pledge to be put towards our group’s annual Pledge to Missions. We also recommit to putting aside money throughout the year as a dedication to our World Thank Offering in November.
  • Between January and June, we work on Mission Project Kits for the Annual Conference. Some of the “kits” we have made are Sewing, Teacher, First Aide, Layette kits, and Flood Buckets.
  • In May, we enjoy delivering flowering plants to a very special group of our congregation. We enjoy giving the flowers and visiting with them as much as they do!
  • In August, we enjoy a potluck picnic including swimming with our families.
  • In December, we all go out for dinner and choose a mission project to support for the holiday.
  • Other meetings have included guest speakers from local organizations, or touring institutions and agencies in the area to do mission work. We also like to attend other special church events, church retreats, and Christian concerts.

Come, join us, and be part of our active ministry!
